Lerg Receives Academic All-America Honor

Jeff Lerg truly exemplifies what it means to be a student-athlete at Michigan State University. He has just been named Academic All-America of the Year by ESPN The Magazine. This is the second year in a row that he has received this honor with his 3.814 GPA in finance. Lerg will be greatly missed next year both for his leadership and extraordinary play between the pipes. On a side note, the Wings were defeated 2-1 in game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals by the Pittsburgh Penguins. Despite the loss, it was a great ride for Justin Abdelkader. Hopefully, we will see him with the Red Wings all season next year... I have already begun to think about our Spartans in 2009-10. I'm looking forward to seeing an improved Michigan State hockey team. We have brought in some skilled recruits and the return of Sucharski and Tropp will be crucial. I think Palmisano has the capability to become another great Spartan goaltender. We have some young forwards that gained a great deal of experience last year, and we should be solid on defense. I'm not expecting a CCHA championship team , but we should see steady improvement all season.

  1. Sean, what do you hear about Jeff Petry staying with the team for this season, versus signing with the Oilers?

  2. Sorry for the late response... I actually have not heard, but once I do find out and it's okay to post it, I will.
